About:
On Feb 1, 2007, I began this photoblog to visually document the process of angling for Cyprinus carpio, the Common Carp, here in Central New York and nearby areas. My initial efforts to catch a carp were intensely frustrating! I had expected that my experiences as a New York State Licensed Fishing Guide would somehow translate to the same successes that I had enjoyed with Bass, Northern Pike, and Tiger Muskie. Boy was I wrong! Carp don’t play by the same rules as pike or bass! While researching the primarily British, or Euro style techniques used to capture these magnificent fish I began to meet a very diverse group of people, all extremely dedicated to “carping”. I quickly found that the knowledge so freely given and the shared experiences along the banks would provide ample opportunity to explore my other passion.. photography. As my success as a carp angler grew… so to did my desire to share this incredible resource! This project is my ongoing attempt to become a better photographer and author. Some images work, some don't -- you're witnessing a permanent work-in-progress! I hope to visually convey the adrenaline rush of battling one of the largest freshwater fish found in North America….. while providing the written support to make it all come together in one comprehensive presentation. Ultimately you will be the judge of whether or not I succeed. The Photoblog is updated periodically to chronicle my experiences with rod and reel as I photo-explore the myriad lakes, rivers, and reservoirs of the Northeast. I shoot in RAW+JPEG format and post process my digital images to maximize contrast, saturation, and tonal values to get the best image possible. The vibrancy of color and contrast in my digital images is due in part to the way in which I want to remember the subject. |
